National Orchid Day recognizes one of the world’s most diverse and widespread flowering plant families. It was started by a South Carolina couple that volunteered at an orchid reserve in Mexico, fell in love and later lost their infant daughter, Orchid Faith. In her remembrance the couple worked to establish and register National Orchid Day.
